SIM 3 is an integrated hardware and software system that can analyze program material such as music to calculate the transfer function of a sound system or space, by measuring and comparing input and output signals of each component in the system. Characteristics such as polarity, distortion, dynamic range, and radiation patterns are measured, and components can be precisely aligned using SIM to guide setting of crossover parameters, delay times, equalization, levels, and speaker positions. And since SIM is multichannel, your time can be spent measuring instead of setting up or patching over and over again.

POWER, SPEED, AND ACCURACY

Real-time data acquisition is crucial for accurate spectral analysis. SIM 3 processes audio data more accurately than any comparable tool, acquiring data in real time and processing information at 32-bit floating-point resolution. The system performs more than 2,000 FFTs per second, returning results at high resolution in less than one second. Audio is measured from 8 Hz to 22 kHz at 1/48-octave resolution, with amplitude accuracy within 0.1 dB.

TOTAL VERSATILITY

SIM is about so much more than sound system alignment. Use SIM to determine the actual level that causes clipping at a device’s input, output, or even within its internal signal path, regardless of the device’s meter readout. Easily quantify latency in a digital processor or equalizer at different settings, or measure ringing or phase shift in a filter. Measure microphone signatures: By comparing the outputs of a lavalier microphone and a reference microphone, for example, SIM 3 can determine corrections necessary to match the sound of the lavalier to the reference in seconds. Verify the performance of equipment in your rental inventory by comparing the device’s transfer function with a reference measurement made when that device was first put into service.
